Christiania

Christianshavn is a fashionable district of the city. Take a stroll along the canals, enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the many cafés along the waterfront, and visit the well-known Free State of Christiania. Many of the houses in Christiania were built by present or previous inhabitants, just part of he art and the human diversity that make Christiania so worth visiting.

City Bikes for Free

Bikes are the most popular mode of transport in Copenhagen and one of the best ways for visitors to experience the city. The Sea Forts of Copenhagen: Middelgrundsfortet, Flakfortet, Trekroner

Copenhagen has three sea forts at the entrance to the harbour in the middle of Øresund. All are artificial islands with Middelgrundsfortet being the largest of its kind in the world, and also the best preserved of the three. The forts were built as part of the Danish defence system designed to protect Copenhagen against attacks from the sea, but today they are open to the public and guided tours are available on a daily basis.

Hotdogs

Copenhagen is very famous for its hotdogs – a Danish culinary phenomenon. The 'pølsevogne' (sausage wagons) are scattered around town and provide a quick, popular snack beloved of both Danes and visitors who want a taste of the local food. Most 'pølsevogne' are privately owned and operate round the clock, providing a great way to meet the locals.

Norrebro – the Hot Spot

In the 1700s Nørrebro was mostly fields and farmland. Today it is a busy part of town with many popular shopping areas, cafés, and restaurants. Sankt Hans Torv in particular has several trendy young cafés like Pussy Galore and Café Sebastopol, which become highly popular hangouts at weekends.
